Boom

I absolutely loathe fireworks. So I find it funny that it rained like cats and dogs on the 3rd. Seriously I just think they are boring. What is the point? Anyhoo...that didn't stop people from setting them off in our alley last night. The sad thing is you would have thought it would have been some ghetto mofos but it was all these hipsters. I honestly do not see the point. But I must say nothing is as bad as when I lived in Bridgeport (aka Shitport) on Chicago's South Side. As Rob jokingly told me It was like war!. Seriously there was smoke everywhere you couldn't even see your house it was so bad. Anyoo I am glad this "Holiday" is over, but I am sure people will continue to light their illegal fireworks until summer is gone.

Which btw I hope is soon. I just can't stand the heat!

Anyhoo enough bitching about fireworks. What I wanted to talk about is how much I am in love with ex-Kabah member María José's solo debut! It's such a fun pop album! I highly recommend it!!!

To check out more on here visit her official myspace page. I always liked Kabah, and incidently felt she was the only one w/ a half way decent voice (which when you think about it isn't that big of a feat). Anyhoo I'm just loving the sounds she explored. The songs are really catchy and I can not get enough of it! I am not when this is getting a US release, but I did notice that it's avaialbe on for download on itunes USA. This is my favorite song on the album, it's called Habla menos:

Well peeps I have to get back to work. Be good.

We did it, lo hicimos

We are all moved in!!! Finally!!!! Took forever but EVERYTHING is now out of the old apartment, cleaned it yesterday, etc. and now it's no longer a concern of mine.

Today we are busy unpacking trying to find a home for all our crap. I honestly so far adore our new place and I like how close we are to everything. Chus loves it too, as there are tons of smaller dogs in the neighborhood. We already met like 5 this week alone! Our neighbors are super quiet, which is odd for an apartment building I think.

Anyhoo...hope you're all enjoying your weekend. Gotta get back to some unpacking. We are going to IKEA on Friday, which I am looking forward to :)

Peace in yo' middle crease.

Finally!

Sorry for the lack of posts. We've been super busy unpacking. The move went smooth (even though we had a few broken items). Now it's just a matter of unpacking and going back to the old place and cleaning up. And yes I still have some odds and ends there to clear out. I hate moving, it's like it never ends!

Work is driving me crazy. It's almost 9pm on Wed. and I am still here finishing up a project that's due tomorrow. Actually I just finished. Just waiting for a ride from my coworker.

Pride was this Sunday. I had a blast, but unfortunately my bum bum didn't. It's largely my fault, and I hope I can make it up to him. Thanks for letting me have fun though. I really needed it.

A few visuals for your enjoyment:

Who's shit faced?

In more exciting news Tiffany is doing 2, count 'em 2, shows in Chicago. And one is actually in the city!!!!

The first one is July 20 @ Circuit in Boystown. Yeah! The second one is out in the burbs at Hunter's on July 21. OMG I can't wait!!!!

In other news after having been cable-less for years I finally got cable again! I decided that I was paying way too much for my phone and internet with SBC, or AT&T or whatever the fuck they call themselves now. So I gave in and got phone/internet/cable through Comcast. Yay! Junk TV!!! It's really only $20 more than what I was paying for only 2 services. Plus it's all inclusive.
Alright peeps I gotta get to a meeting (it's Thurs am as I am finishing this post...).

Almost

Tomorrow is our move! Woo hoo! I can't wait to get out of current place. I know we struggled for a bit when deciding to leave or not, but I honestly believe w/ all my heart we have made the right decision. Yay! We sign our lease tonight and get our keys. The next two days will be hellish but we'll get through it :) I'll post some pics once we're all settled in.

To tide you over 'til my next post here's a video for you all to enjoy :)

Packers

I am in packing hell. Well the packing part isn't so bad. It just would help if it was 9 thousand fucking degrees out!!! I HATE SUMMMER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Apparently it is only going to be 82º on Friday. Let's hope it gets even cooler than that.

Peace out.

Meat

I am really excited about moving into our new apartment. Literally it has everything that we were looking for and more! We started doing some packing and what not this weekend. I think I packed about 10 boxes and that includes about half of my cds (which if anyone knows me is alot). Our move is less than 2 weeks away, there is still so much to do! Pray I don't drive us crazy :P

You might be wondering why this post is called meat? No it has nothing to do w/ my favorite carne asada recipe. It's about one of my early teen crushes....Meat (aka actor Tony Ganios). If any of you have ever seen the early 80s teen sex romp Porky's than you know who I am talking about.

I am talking about this super über beefaroni beefcake in the blue:

Image Hosted by ImageShack.us

Grrrrr! Check him out w/ out the blue coat...

Image Hosted by ImageShack.us

And a close-up while we're at it...

Image Hosted by ImageShack.us

Yum yum! I love his big 'ol Greek schnoz!

Man this movie was porn for me in my early teens. I know it may seem lame by today's standards, but back then I was already wearing out my Marky Mark & Mario Lopez pinups. I don't even remember how I happened across this movie. Probably cable. This was the early 90s before porn became so accessible by the internet. Only you youngsters have it so easy now. LOL.

There are so many memorable scenes such as the shower peeping and the above which involves one of my favorite movie character names ever...Cherry Forever played by none other than Webster's mom Susan Clark!!! Hot!

Enough ranting for today. I should really pack another box or two before I go to bed. Take care all of you out there in blogger land.

Just Tiffany

I am in Tiffany heaven right now. Her new album was just released this past Tuesday and I can't not begin to express how much I love it!

Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket

What a beautiful effort. Don't get me wrong I like DUST OFF AND DANCE, but I feel this is truly the proper follow-up to 1999's THE COLOR OF SILENCE. Dare I say it...I think I like this better than TCOS (ok so it's a little early to proclaim this...but I'm just elated right now).

Her voice is just amazing throughout and the songs are very touching. I have several immediate favorites:

Hiding Behind The Face
Streets Of Gold
Be Alright
Calling Out Your Name

But I think my fave is This Love. And I adore Feels Like Love the first single. Check out this performance from an in-store she did this past Tuesday at the Virgin Megastore in West Hollywood, CA:

Her vocals are amazing! Again what a great album. Congrats to Tiffany and all those involved w/ this amazing new effort! If anyone is interested in purchasing this or hearing samples check out her label's site or you can purchase it on amazon.com or cduniverse.com or itunes.

Moscas en la casa

Guess what? We found a place!!!!!!!!!! Yay!!!

We ended up staying in our hood. Location is amazing, price is great, and it had everything we were looking for :)

Yay for us!

Now comes the (un)fun part...packing!

Leaving...

So it is official, we are moving! Now's the fun part...finding a place. I am not going to limit myself to just our current neighborhood. There are a few others I might check out as well. Researching and visiting prospective apartments can be taxing, but I think things happen for a reason. Anyhoo wish us luck in finding something both safe and affordable. But above everything, dog friendly is #1 on my list :)

Crummy Faggot

I just posted this on Togerland, so sorry if it's old to you. But anyhoo...

I don't know if any of you listen to Johnny McGovern's podcast. He has Sophia Lamar on regularly and she is a hoot! She recently gave her top 10 reasons you may be a crummy faggot...

10. You wear flip flops

9. You ask for a drink ticket

8. You have highlights

7. You have a Christina Aguilera ring tone

6. You are so tan that you are orange

5. You are an escort

4. You think that the Gotti boys are fashion icons

3. You haven't slept in 4 days

2. You wax your asshole

1. You wear a t-shirt w/ a tie

Loves it! I think I know a few people that have more than one of these traits. I admit I wear flip flops. One out of 10 ain't too bad! LOL! Enjoy your holiday weekend my fellow Yanks.

Pretty Girl

I have an addiction and it's called TV shows on DVD! Especially soaps! I am currently watching:

Apuesta por un amor. So far it's nothing spectacular but one of my faves broads is in it...Patricia Manterola! She is by far one of my fave floptastic divettes!

From the moment I saw her in Garibaldi she was the one who stood out to me:

When she went solo I was all about it!

But it was w/ her second disco drenched album (that every loca should own fyi) that sealed the deal. Who remembers this one? The title track to her fagalicious 2nd album Niña Bonita. I think I came out to this album! LOL!

So she hasn't had that many hits, well I guess one really. I mean they even did an English version that was popular in Europe...

While she does b-movies in Hollywood and the occasional album, let's hope we get another album soon (that crappy cover album she released independently doesn't count).

So soon

Sorry I haven't been bloggin' lately. Work has been busy this past week. As some of you may or may not know, last Monday someone tried to break into our apartment. I won't go into details as my boo boo has already done so. Luckily no one was hurt as someone was home when this occurred. So we spent the majority of the week cotemplating whether or not we are going to renew our lease when it's up next. Personally I hate moving, but under the current circumstances...it's totally worth it. Our safety and well being outweighs the hassle of packing. As I type this, I was just outside walking our dog when I saw this man run out of someone's home only to see one of my neighbors run after him. Turns out this guy broke into their home while they were there. Sound familiar? 2 break-ins in one week! WTF? So I'm going to be looking for something in the immediate future, hopefully something a little more secure. If I had the money I would totally buy my own place, but unfortunately that's not going to happen anytime soon.

On a lighter note this is the first time I ever picked the winner for America's Next Top Model! I am so excited that our little cha cha tranny won! LOL! GO Jaslene!

When I found out she was from Chicago I was joking that she must be from Humbolt Park because she was so trashy...well I was right! Loves it!

There was something else I was gonna write about but I am drawing a blank. Sorry.

Muchachitas

So as some you may or may not know, Televisa has begun airing a remake of it's hit 1991 telenovela Muchachitas (which they've slightly renamed Muchachitas como tú). I won't even go into details about how awful this is, check out the opening credits of the new version to see for yourself. Hell while we're at it check out the original intro!

So why all this Muchachitas talk? Not that I haven't talked about it before. I had told my bf before that it was the first novela I ever watched. At the time I was a Freshman in high school and was just embarking on my journey to relearn Spanish. I remember being obsessed w/ it and the stars (except for Kate Del Castillo whom I still can't stand...sorry Chava I just had to rub it in!!)...

Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket

This novela also started my love for Tiaré Scanda might I add. Anyhoo...so I watched it, with my limited Spanish I was able to follow along. I mean it was a soap, pretty basic right? I remember always talking about it w/ the other Mexican girl at my high school. And I remember she said to me "They're cancelling it". I was like "what???!!!???" I did not realize that telenovelas were only on for a short time. I thought they were like American ones that have been on for decades. I remember being so sad when it ended.

Needless to say I've come to grow fond of this trashy genre. I especially love when they release them on DVD in condensed formats. As for my love for my first soap...you know what I loved most? Laura León!!! LOL!!!

Ay yay yay!!!!

3

Today is Chus's 3rd birthday! He's 21 in dog years :) Who would have thought that a little black & white furball could fill our lives w/ so much joy? Animals truly are special and I can't begin to explain how much we love having our little guy around :) I couldn't resist and had to post this adorble pic I found of him:

So today he will have a small doggie cake and a trip to PetSmart to pick out a toy (like he needs more). And in case anyone was wondering about our visit to the Kidney Specialist, all went well. They've put him on some prescription medication that he needs to take for life, which is rather scary, but it's a preventative & necessary step for his future health. He's a trooper so I am sure things will go smoothly.

Enjoy your day!

Touch Your Toes

Greetings readers. I'm doing my best to get back on a regualr posting schedule :) Not much new here, just trying to live life. The weather is über warm...and I hate it! LOL! I know what a weirdo. What can I say, I am a winter baby.

I feel like I haven't blogged about new music in forever. One of my favorite new releases is from DJ Armand Van Helden.

It's called Ghettoblaster and is described by Armand as being a retro 1985-1989 album! There are hits of old house, freestyle, new wave, etc. I'm in heaven. Check out the vide for Touch Your Toes:

One of my faves of all-time is finally back w/ a new album, Marta Sánchez releases her best album since 1995's Mi Mundo, entitled Miss Sanchez

It's a fagtastic dance album (save a few boring ballads). I have no idea when it's coming out in the US or Mexico for that matter. A friend of mine from Spain is getting me a copy...and I can't wait!!! Check out this mini promo video where Marta talks about the album.

This album was produced by Carlos Jean (I guess there is hope for him after those atrocious Fey albums) and even features a duet w/ Alaska!!! Check out the first single which features a sample of Just Can't Get Enough by Depeche Mode:

And last but not least is Hilary Duff's latest Dignity.

While the electro pop sound is kinda dated, this album is still H-O-T! It's a total throwback to Rachel Steven's Come & Get It, which was a State Of Mind by Holly Valance throwback, which ultimately was what I dubbed years ago Neon Nights's little sister. So it all goes back to Dannii Minogue!

Suburbia

I would like to rant about how much I hate the suburbs! Yesterday we had to take Chus to go see a Kidney specialist (no need for alarm, it was just a follow up from his surgery last fall...and all seems to be well thus far) out in Buffalo Grove, IL. Now we've been here before, and my dumb ass thought I remembered how to get there. Well needless to say, I was off by one tollway stop, and I thought it was closer to the WI border. Wrong! After showing up 45 minutes late for our apt., we finally made it.

I just find the 'burbs to be so ass backwards. Everything looks the same, everythings spread out, etc. It just made for a strenuous experience. Someone shoot me if I ever move to the 'burbs.

So all my car time yesterday made me really appreciate living in the city and not having to be stuck in traffic at all times. I would hate to live in a place like LA (or even Milwaukee for that matter). So that got me thinking about getting my driver's license. I remember turning 16 and not really wanting a driver's license. I think mainly because I was scared I was going to get into a car accident or something. Call it paranoia if you will. So then when I finally did get it, some six months later...I was ecstatic. It felt like such freedom to drive to Target which really was only 5 minutes from my house (but then again you can get anywhere in Milwaukee in 5 minutes...LOL). Now I feel like I'm trapped!!! So I asked my bf if living in Chicago getting a license is such a big deal, I mean since public transportation is so readily available. He said "Only on the South Side". Makes sense. God forbid you walk somewhere on the South Side.

I know I've been lacking in my posts, I just haven't felt like writing lately. When I started this blog I thought it was just gonna be my rants and raves, which it is, but sometimes I feel like I have to write something. Can be a chore at times. So I'm gonna try and bring some fun back into this place.

Late April seems to be a busy birthday time. My boo boo celebrated his bday this past Sat (we had a lovely dinner and some drinks afterwards); my friends Yesenia and Alex both celebrated bdays yesterday; I know Jorgillo's is this week; and Alethya's is next Monday. So Happy Birthday to you all :)

Ouch

I just realized I haven't written on here in ages! Sorry! I've just been busy. I have things I've been meaning to write about...but I've been too busy! Will write soon.

p.s. I've been trying to update our Milk Carton Pop Stars blog. Check it out!

Nancy Drew

As a child in my pre-teen years I used to be obsessed w/ the Nancy Drew character. In particular The Nancy Drew Files line of books, such as this one:

God how gay could I be??? I mean I tried to read the combined Hardy Boys/Nancy Drew books but I would always end up reading these instead. I think I read well up into my early teens. What a homo I was!!!!

Turkish delight

OMG! Guess who released a new single last year??? Why did I not know about this...

So does this mean there is a new album to follow??? I can't seem to find any info. Just the fact that there is a myspace profile out there. Not sure if it's official or just a fan-made one. Who cares it's Nez!

UPDATE
I found the album online!!!

You can purchase it at the following Turkish music store. It's based in the US so don't worry about crazy shipping prices! I can't wait 'til it arrives!!!!

Chicago Speak

I've lived in Chicago for about 7.5 years. It amazes me that only having grown up one state over (Wisconsin) the local slang can be so different. This post is about the Chicago terms I've learned over the years (and the Milwaukee counterparts I know):

Brazer: I know this term is so un-PC but I can't help but notice how much it's used amongst Mexican-Americans here in Chicago. It's the basterdized English version of the word bracero that is used to refer to [illegal] Mexican immigrants. A "bracero" is a worker, I believe. In Milwaukee I guess we were much more direct and would just say mojados (wetbacks...I know so wrong). It wasn't until I moved here that I noticed how everyone and their mother uses this word. Personally I think it's a pretty offensive word, what's so wrong w/ immigrants?

Cotillon: When I planned my 30th Quinceañera theme some of my coworkers kept calling it my Cotillon. I have never ever in my life heard this term before moving to Chicago. I asked my cousins from Milwaukee and we all agreed it must be a Chicago thing. What's so hard about saying Quiceañera???

ATM: It took me about a year of living her to stop referring to the ATM machine as the Tyme machine or my ATM card as a Tyme card. You see in Milwaukee the company that runs them is called Tyme, hence why the name has stuck w/ so many mootowners.

Those are all I can think of right now. Any others?

Edit

How could I forgot one of the most obvious?? As my Sista M already pointed out...

Water/Drinking fountain: So drinking fountain or a water fountain isn't necesarrily slang...but in Milwaukee we call them bubblers. Why? It was invented in Kohler, WI by Kohler Water Works and was originally dubbed "bubbler". As years went by the more popular water fountain became the norm.
