What about RBD?

So where was RBD on my favorite of 2005?'s funny you mention them because I was planning on doing a post about that album being my guilty pleasure of 2005! So here goes...

This year I became addicted to this cheesy soap opera and how so! I even went as far as going as Anahí for Halloween! LOL! So I bought their debut and listened to it quite a few times, but when it came time for the follow-up (lord knows they have to milk this while they're still hot) it was love @ first listen! I listen to this every morning in the shower. The title track Nuestro amor is so addictive! Plus I love their new glam image.

As for the new CD I think it's a whole lot better than their debut and I already have my faves which are Nuestro amor, Aún hay algo, Solo para ti, Fuera, Tras de mí, Qué fue del amor & Qué hay detrás. I think I even like Feliz cumpleaños! I only wish that they would let Maite sing lead more cause she's the only one of the girls w/ a decent voice. Anahí is too scratchy and Dulce María has an annoying squeaky voice.

I'm sure they'll release album #3 this year. I also heard they are doing an English album this year! You know I am buying that cause 5 years from now it'll be worth big bucks on ebay :)

Of course my follow up for guilty pleasure of the year is RBD related. Who else but Alma Rey herself, Ninel Conde! I love her because she's so trashy! Her music is typical girlie grupera stuff (i.e. Ana Barbara, etc.) but oh so much more fun. I think my fave has to be La rebelde, but the original version, the more tropical one, not the norteño one that is on the album. I also love her Gloria Trevi penned "hit" Ingrato. And believe it or not her voice isn't that bad. Plus she's hot!

So now you know where RBD is. Here's wishing everyone a very happy new year. Still not sure what we're doing tonight. But I am sure whatever it involves, there will be booze and me telling someone to change their cotex.

Lo mejor

I present to you my favorite albums of 2005. It was rather hard to narrow it down. And rather do a top 10 (or a top 5 for that matter)...I wittled it down to 15. So allow me to ramble...

15. Depeche Mode-Playing The Angel

14. Kelly Osbourne-Sleeping In The Nothing

13. Anna Vissi-Nylon

12. María Matto-Detrás del amor

11. Fannypack-See You Next Tuesday

Image hosted by

10. Bananarama-Drama: The Nanas have fun on the dance floor & make their best album since POP LIFE.

Image hosted by

9. Shakira-Fijación oral vol.1: Shakira proved that she's better in español w/ her best album in years.

Image hosted by

8. Soraya-El otro lado de mí: Colombian-American chanteuse recorded the best album of her career w/ glorious results.

Image hosted by

7. Tiffany-Dust Off & Dance: So it sounds like it was recorded in 1996, it's Tiffany; she could sing the phone book & I'd love it.

Image hosted by

6. Natalia y la forquetina-Casa-While nowhere near as quirky as her debut, this proves why Natalia Lafourcade is one of the most exciting performers to come out of Mexico in years.

Image hosted by

5. Chenoa-Nada es igual: I've always loved Chenoa as she's definitely one of my favorite newer acts to come out of Spain. My only problem is while her previous two albums had killer singles, the rest of the albums had tons of filler. But not this one. I think this is her strongest effort and while some fans do not like the non-dance direction she's taken, I have to say it's a welcome change.

Image hosted by

4. Sara Valenzuela-Lado este: Ex-Dosis front woman released a hypnotic solo debut. From trip hop to Jamiroquai-esque beats, Sara has really outdone herself. I had the chance to see Sara perform (and meet her) at an in-store @ Tower and as the opening act for Fangoria. Wow is all I can say....& not just because we share the same last name :)

Image hosted by

3. Rachel Stevens-Come & Get It: So what if she has the personality of a bucket of water? She's made the funnest pop album of the year. Eat your heart out Madonna! Glorious electro-pop galore, it's the perfect companion to my other fave electro pop albums by Dannii Minogue (Neon Nights) & Holly Valance (State of Mind). Here's hoping she continues w/ this new musical direction that suits her so well.

Image hosted by

2. Belanova-Dulce Beat: Probably the album that grew on me the most this year. I practically ignored it until I took it w/ me on my work excursion to MI. It's been on heavy rotation ever since (be it my ipod, car, home stereo). Don't ask me how many times I've listed to Rosa pastel or my new obsession Sexy. I have to say this album is a perfect ten and it's great to see all these new electronic acts emerging from Mexico.

Image hosted by

1. Elan-London Express: Did you really expect me to pick something else? Quite honestly it took me a LONG time to get into this album. It's impossible to surpass her debut, STREET CHILD, because for me it's flawless. While this album is steeped in Beatles influence, I personally can't stand them, I must say it furthered my growing love for Elan. She has forever penetrated my musical soul. ¡Viva Elan!

There you have it my faves of 2005. Hope you enjoyed my ramblings. I'd just like to take a moment and wish you all a very happy new year. Thanks for reading my rants & raves.

Thee know me so well...

My boo boo jokes that I like two kinds of female singers. Tonedeaf divas (i.e. Alaska, Dannii Minogue, Holly Valance, etc.) or moody girls (i.e. Elan, Ely Guerra, Danielle Brisebois). Quite different ends of the spectrum. So when he gave me the following...

I knew he would be right as she falls into the moody girls group! I'm just barely listening to Voodoo Chic by Helicopter Girl, but already I can tell I'm gonna love it! It's quite funny when you're partner knows your musical tastes down to a "t". Like I always know when he's gonna like some menapausal broad. I'm usually right, as is he. Thanks hon for feeding my musical obsessions.

Will post later w/ xmas pics, and my faves of '05.

worst of 05

It is finally the weekend! As Debbie Deb says...lookout weekend here i come...because weekends were made for fun. Can someone find me my roller skates? I am currently on day 2 of my 5 day weekend! It feels so good. We even went out last night to Circuit, just like old times. The drag show was pretty bad, that's just cause Miss Ketty always looks like death, and her girls just can't compare w/ Veronica Zaid's. Oh well. It was nice to get out, dance our asses off and drink. Such a nice change from all the drama that's been going on lately. Let me just take a moment and get on my soap box. I'd just like to say that people really need to stop being dramatic and learn how to laugh at life a little. For that is why my Milwaukee Sister and I get along so well. I love you, your cold heart and your high horse! She's one fierce bitch!

While I've been trying to compile my picks for my favorites of the year, it's been hard to narrow down my choices, I thought I'd start off w/ my least faves of the year. I have to say overall 2005 was a great year for my music collection and that is why I only chose three.

Image hosted by

3. Ashlee Simpson I Am Me. I know I know. Shame on me. It was on sale for $8.99 at Target and I could not resisit! I should have. Save 2 songs (Boyfriend and L.O.V.E.) this has to be one of the most boring albums of the year (I almost chose Lindsay Lohan's sophmore effort but there were just enough trashy moments to save it). I am not even a fan, but like I said the cheap price was almost as glaring as her cheap fake blonde hair.

Image hosted by
2. Javier García 13 Javier, Javier. I waited God knows how many years for you to follow up your flawless debut and this is the best you give me? Sounds like a Juanes knock-off to me (and I can't stand Juanes so we know where this is heading). Don't you just hate it when an artist makes a return after a lengthy abscence and the results are dismal?

Image hosted by

1. Madonna Confessions On A Dancefloor Speaking of dismal...I know my membership to the fag society should be revoked but contrary to what every other fag says, this album is B-O-R-I-N-G! I can name about 5 other dance albums that were light years better than this. All the songs sound pretty much the same after a few listens. Besides I love Abba too much to appreciate the sample in Hung Up. If that weren't enough, Madge sounds so lazy vocally on this album it's not even funny. Can't she at least try? The only salvagable song was Jump. If you're going to make a good dance album can't you at least do something that wasn't done by the Minogue sisters in the 90s? No pun intended Sista M...but she needs to get off her high horse. This album was supposed to be a throwback to fun early Madonna? She failed miserably. She hasn't had fun since Erotica. Stop trying to hard.

An honorable mention goes to all the crappy reggaeton that was released this year. My hatred for the genre was further cemented last night at Circuit. While I can enjoy dancing to this ghetto fad for a song or 2, after awhile it all sounds THE SAME. They did a set last night and if it weren't for the videos I would have not known when one song began and when the next ended.

I leave you all as Chus is barking at me to take him for a walk. I will post my best of most likely tomorrow. Take care!

I heart Jake

I am relaxed after having a 3 day weekend. I slept until 11am yesterday and didn't do much other than watch TV, write out my xmas cards and clean up a bit. Ahh. To think This weekend I have a 5 day weekend. Love unused vacation time :) Had a super busy weekend as usual.

Friday was 2 work parties. One for my current group, and one in the evening for my old group. Quite honestly I kinda felt a little out of place. Is that weird?

Saturday I spent most of the day running around doing errands and finishing up the last touches for our holiday get together. Needless to say we had a blast and the right mix of friends :) Here are some photos from the evening's festivities (note how adorable my baby looks in his Santa outfit):

Image hosted by

The cutest thing was that at one point of the night we found him sleeping on our friend's lap! He was never used to that many people around, so I think it overwhelmed him a bit. That was ok because he sure as hell slept it off the next day. Anyhoo the point of our get together was to have a tacky xmas xchange. We had to get the most creative gifts from the dollar store (even though some people cheated...Target, Kmart, Kohl's, etc.). It was fun and I got a pair of fairy wings! There was tons of piña coladas, freestyle and oh so much more.

On Sunday I was a bit tired to say the leaset and I did a lot of nappy w/ my partner in crime Chus :) Didn't do much other than lounge around and load the dish washer. In the evening I ended up going to see Brokeback Mountain in Evanston (free parking rocks!!).

Image hosted by

Emily, Jorge and my boo boo took in a 9:15 showing. Now I enjoyed it, even though I did think there was too much hype, mostly for the hot "butt sex" as Emily kept calling it. Who am I kidding? I loved it because of Jake Gyllenhall. Sigh. Dreamy Jake. Grrr. Someone on the other hand found it more amusing than anything else. Explains the constant chatter. LOL.

I had Monday off and am only working today and tomorrow for the rest of the week! I can't wait! We have even decided to relive old times and go to Circuit on Thursday! Thank God I have off Friday otherwise I would only last 2 drinks! It sucks getting old.

Should get going as I have to get back to work. Ugh. Ta ta everyone!

Cute Boys

So I didn't end up going to see las Ultrasónicas on Sat. after all. It was just so bad outside and after a very long drive home I was so tired and could not be bothered to go. Plus it didn't help that my friend almost got into a nasty accident on the way to my house. We took it as an omen. My little trip to Milwaukee was nice, we took my Mom out for Thai food for her birthday. After I took a long nap I was refreshed and was convinced that a night at Roscoe's would do me good. It was a blast as the videos were awesome! Dannii! Geri! Holly! Paulina! What more could a fag want? Sunday my friend Bertha and her sister Pati came to visit (along w/ Bertha's daughter Sara who has to be the cutest baby in the world!!). We went to Café Bolero for lunch and then stopped at Tower for a bit. So it was a busy weekend.

Now for what you've all been waiting for (amuse me people). It took me awhile but here is my Cute Boy was supposed to be only 10 but it ended up being 15. Please appreciate my shallowness. In case you are just tuning in, these are CDs I have purchased over the years soley on the fact that I thought the singer (or in some cases group) was cute. Shame on me I know, but who else buys this crap but gay men?

Image hosted by Photobucket.com15. Jeremy Jordan: Can we say early 90s? Normally I DO NOT like blond/blue eyes but there was something rather dreamy about Mr. Jordan that I could not resist. It didn't help that he was always half naked in his videos, magazine spreads, etc. I can still hear him singing It's the right kind of's the right kind of love.... Ask me how many times I've actually listened to his CD?

Image hosted by Photobucket.com14. Gerardo: cheesy yet so hot! Even though he had those nasty extensions and wore the cheesy do-rag, he had my hormones raging way back when. I even bought a couple of his flop follow ups. I hear he's gone all holy roller on us now.

Image hosted by Photobucket.com13. No Mercy: Attack of the 90s continues. I remember seeing the single for Where Do You Go? (which was done first by another 90s dance act, La Bouche) and thinking hotties!. Well actually only the singer. I always thought the other 2 (the twins) were too plastic looking for my tastes. I know they actually did some follow ups that were only released in Germany (I think Sista M proudly owns these). Where are they now? Apparently there is a still a mention of them on their old label Arista's site.

Image hosted by Photobucket.com12. Edi Xol: Most of you know him as Eduardo from Extreme Makeover: Home Edition's landscaping guy, but in the early to mid 90s he was a B list soap star/singer in Mexico. His CD was pretty awful yet I still bought it. Hmmm...I wonder how much this would go for on ebay?

Image hosted by Photobucket.com11. Kairo: This flesh baring Mexican boyband of the early 90s was one of my faves. Mainly their 1st two albums w/ the original line up. I remember seeing them on Siempre en domingo EVERY WEEK! En los espejos de un café...

Image hosted by Photobucket.com10. Joey Lawrence: Whoa! I was so obsessed w/ Blossom and the fact that Joey Lawrence was so damn cute didn't help. So you know when he released his album I would buy it! Wo-oh-oh, there's nothing my love can't fix for you baby. Have you seen him lately? Apart from his Puerto Rican looking eyebrows, he is f*ckin hot!

Image hosted by Photobucket.com9. Chayanne: This was the first Spanish language CD I ever bought! Wonder why? I could barely understand what he was saying but I understood what was going on under his wifebeater! LOL! Too bad he's been churning out the same crappy album ever since.

Image hosted by Photobucket.com8. Yahir: A product of La Academia but who cares? He's such a cutie. I know he kinda looks like a frog, but I think that's what makes him so cute, his quirkiness...and have you seen the boy's ass and package! ¡Casi se me caen los calzones!

Image hosted by Photobucket.com7. Jerry Rivera: Salsa music sucks. There I said it. But when studs like Jerry Rivera make crappy music, it's ok! Look at those arms for Christ's sake! His pop albums are pretty crappy too, but who cares!

Image hosted by Photobucket.com6. Sarbel: My favorite new Greek hottie. Have no idea what he's saying nor had I heard any of his music upon buying his CD. He was just too hot to pass up! Shallow I know. But it was actually a good CD!

Image hosted by Photobucket.com5. Alejandro Fernández: Grrr! Grrr! Is there anything else to say about him? He's voice is sexy as hell, and he's pretty easy on the eyes. Ok so that's an understatement. However gross this may sound, I've said if he were my cousin I would have already committed incest! LOL!

Image hosted by Photobucket.com4. Jaime Camil: So he's cocky as hell, but who cares? He's just so damn gorgeous! His music sucks, but as long as he keeps putting out albums I'll keep buying them.

Image hosted by Photobucket.com3. Bobby Pulido: OMG! OMG! Bobby Pulido is like a wet dream come true! Grrr! Who knew a Tejano could be so hot? Seriously folks. Absolutely loathe the genre he performs but I have to buy his CDs just to drool over the pics! ¡Viva Bobby!

Image hosted by Photobucket.com2. Charlie Massó: The hottest man to EVER come out of Menudo. I think I need a moment to myself. My lord is he friggin' sexy or what???!!?? Check out the über gay 90s cover w/ his mesh see-through top! Classic!

Image hosted by Photobucket.com1. Ari Borovoy. Poor poor Ari, I think only his grandmother and the 3 copies I bought (1 for me, 1 for boo boo, and 1 for Sista M) in Mexico this year are all he's sold. But God damn could a guy be so hot??!!! Who cares if he's 5 feet tall (ok not really sure how tall he is but I'm told he's rather on the short side), he has to be the sexiest male pop tart to ever come out of Mexico! Check out the video for his so bad it's good first single Booming. Now that I've listened to his CD a few times, it's actually not that bad. I especially loved the 2nd single . For my Ari check out the link under things I love to left.

Daughter to Father

I know I have been slacking on my posts, and they are usually short, but I just haven't had the time (plus my desk is facing outwards now so everyone can see what I am doing...yikes!). Anyhoo...let me start off by saying that I am sooooooooooo pissed that Nicole won ANTM!!!!!!!! WTF!!!???!!! Apparently I'm not alone. Great minds think alike.

So this past Tuesday I cemented my homosexuality (like that was even an option anymore) by getting up extra early to go to Tower to purchase this (the day of it's release mind you):

Image hosted by

I know...I know...what a homo! I just can't get enough of her lately. While the album is nowhere near as fun or trashy as her debut it does have it's moments. I'll just add it to my actors who sing pile.

Speaking of piles, I am still working on my cute boy list. I am narrowing it down to the final 10. But someone who may have to be a future contender is Diego Torres. Now I can't stand his music, he's got that sappy AC sound that's oh so popular in Spanish speaking countries. But I saw a movie w/ him the other day on Univision (have no idea what it was called). Now I never really pay much attention to him, but in this film there was a particular scene where he was flashing A LOT of skin. Damn does he have a nice ass!!?? And he had a nice package! Dieguito...I never knew! Maybe I just will break down and buy one of your sappy CDs for my cute boy collection. This one perhaps?

Image hosted by

I liked this cover the best.

Let me give a shout out to my homegirl Tracy on her new job! Keep it real in D-town! Holla! But the reason I am bringing you up Sister Perri is because if it weren't for you asking about Charo's disco tune I wouldn't have found out that it was re-released on CD in Canada a few years back (while I was digging around to find out the year of its releae)!! So you know I did some digging (and after finding it for $74 I was not giving up). I ended up finding it on ebay and also finding the follow up for a steal less than $30 for both (as they both go for big $$$). Woo hoo! I can't wait for these to arrive to add to my 'crap-tastic' pile. Plus I'm just dying to hear her xmas song Mamacita ¿Dónde está Santa Claus!

Image hosted by

I am going to Mootown tomorrow to see my Mom since it's her bday, so that will be a short but nice visit I am sure. I am still planning on going to see las Ultrasónicas at the Congress Theatre. Don't forget it's a free show! I must go home and clean up as I am having some friends visit on Sunday.

Have a great weekend everyone.

Vente en mi boca

They're coming! They're coming! LAS ULTRASÓNICAS are coming to Chicago!!!!

Image hosted by

This Saturday, Dec. 10 @ the Congress Theatre! It gets's a FREE show!! It's part of their free concert series and they will be coming w/ Victimas del Dr. Cerebro! I swear I haven't seen them since I moved to Chicago. That was 6 years ago @ the Palladium, I remember it was on Halloween and I took my picture w/ one of the guys, can't remember which one. Like I was saying the concert is free so visit the Congress Theatre's website to get your free tickets!

My weekend was pretty mellow, I ended up staying in and cleaning, vegging, watching bad movies (Not Another Teen Movie, etc.). Nothing else exciting, just trying to get ready for Xmas shindig. Before I forget congrats to my lifer Lady Dijon and her twins she's expecting :) Ibérico was a blast!

Before I leave, I too am addicted to LastFM. Thanks Twin Blogger! Check out my user page and see what i'm listening to in realtime.

Peace out!

funky funky funky xmas

Image hosted by

Who knew that this 1990 marketing ploy would be so scarce in 2005? We are going to be having a holiday get together soon and I wanted to play some fun trashy xmas music. Naturally this came to mind. I remember seeing it a few years back at Tower. When I looked into it's availability I came to find that it is out of print. Not only is it out of print but it goes for $30+ on ebay/amazon/etc. So being the good shopper I am, I did some digging and came across a copy of the Japanese import for the mere price of $13 w/ shipping from Japan! It arrived earlier this week and I must say, time has not been kind to NKOTB's xmas fare. But, I had to have it. I think I get off on finding rare cd's at cheap prices (hello I found India's freestyle CD for less than $10!!). At least it will serve it's purpose the day of shindig.

So a friend directed me to a blog that I am becoming obsessed with. He asked about this. No I don't have it but I must. The this in question:

Yes Blair from the Facts of Life recorded a Christian LP in 1984 (and it was nominated for a grammy!!!). It is crap-tastic (I am stealing that phrase from a fellow SayHeyer. Check out this guy's blog, FourFour! Not only is he obsessed w/ America's Next Top Model but he has an affinity for crappy late 80s/early 90s music! Can he DJ at my next party?

Speaking of ANTM, next week is the season finale. Since Lisa was shockingly let go, I have to say based on who's left and how they've been wowing us lately, my money's on Nik.

Image hosted by

Of all the girls, she is the only one who really looks like a model. Besides if Nicole wins, I may just barf!

I am still working on my cute boy CD list. I've run into the fact that most of these are packed away somwhere to never be heard of again! LOL! Leave your suggestions.

I am off, I am going to Café Ibérico for tapas and sangría w/ some friends. Ta-ta to you all!
