Fall where are you?

I think summer may finally be coming to an end. Yay! It's been cooler and cooler, and best of all it hasn't been muggy hardly at all this week! Next week it'll be in the mid 70s, even going into the high 60s. Thank God! Summer is my least favorite season and for whatever reason it felt like it was never gonna end.

Onto to other more important things...if you haven't heard Timbiriche are doing a reunion tour for their 25th Anniversary (sans Paulina Rubio) and this time there are a few US dates...one of which is Chicago! Woo hoo! Long story short we eneded up getting front row tickets for the upcoming show on September 15. OMG!!!!!!!!!!!!! I am so excited. I am going to be so close to Sasha Sökol I'll be able to smell her farts! LOL.

After Bibi Gaytán, Sasha is my 2nd favorite ex-Timbiriche. I've dreamt of the day I'd be able to see her in concert and now it's going to happen. Yay!

Well I am going to enjoy the rest of my weekend. Tootles.

Dipity Do'

I feel like my posts are growing more and more apart. Sorry peeps just slammed at work right now. Labor day weekend came and went. I had to come in Saturday to get a project done that had to be at our client first thing Tuesday am, so that was a bummer. I made up for Sat as we went out for my boo boo's brother's 30th bday bash. It was at this new bar downtown called English. While the air was broken, I have to say I had a blast! They had an open bar special for $35 until 12:30am...gurl let me tell you...we got our drink on! I had a very nasty hang over the next day. Many a drunk time was had, like this:

So I think I mentioned that a few weeks ago we went to Milwaukee to visit my family and went out w/ my cousins, got drunk, it was a good time. But...I have to tell you about the most tacky thing I think I've ever seen in my life (and I am from Wisconsin, so you know I've seen lots of tacky). So we're driving and I think we were already past Racine, heading into Milwaukee when I look over at this huge SUV and see this on it's bumper:

WTF!!! I mean I am all for people showing their support for breast cancer, but with a f*cking Packers logo smack dab in the middle??? OMG...I think that sums up Milwaukee for me. Tacky tacky tacky!!!! LOL! I swear they must be from West Allis or Crudahay, the armpits of Milwaukee.

So going back to the holiday weekend....we ended up doing something we never really do, go to the mall! We took a drive out to Skokie to go to Old Orchard mall...because I wanted bourbon chicken:

OMG I love bourbon chicken!!! I worked at a mall briefly when I was in college, and we'd always go get this dish on our meal breaks! Love it!!! So since we were out in the burbs, at the mall...you know this was coming...the suburbanites were out in all their glory. Of course. But I can't help but notice all the dippity do' boys were out. You know the ones...they look like the Gotti brothers, severely gelled hair, bad orange tans, they shop at Aramani Xchange. LOL.

Enough of my ramblings...take care everyone!

"Oh Honey"

So we had a quickie visit from our favorite californian...Chava! Though his visit was short, it was nice seeing him once again. Last time he was here our visit was cut short by some guy who shall remain nameless (Oh Honey)...

Anyhoo while Chava was here we took advantage and attended the Viva Chicago festival to see Mexico's answer to Hilary Duff (speaking of the Duffster...her show was postponed last Friday), Belinda. We went down to Grant Park and waited for about an hour for miss thang to take the stage (yes heat and all). Needless to say we got there late so there was no way we could actually watch the show from the proper audience seats. While her set was short...this was the best I could get picture wise:

She is kinda dippy, and sang live only a few songs, but it was free...so can I really complain? Odd thing was she performed her hit Ni Freud, ni tu mamá twice, as the opening number and the closing number. Huh? Anyhoo it was fun staring at all the nocas who were there not to mention the scurry pretaricans w/ there even scarier plucked eyebrows.

We did some cute shots of ourselves though:

I'm sorry we weren't as readily available to enjoy your visit properly, but next time we'll have to plan it around some days off for everybody...and we are so going to CA soon! If anything to go CD shopping, meet some real-life Echo Parque cholas (maybe we can even find Whispers) and take a trip to TJ...hello mixup and donkeys?? I'm there! Chus misses his Titi Chava.

Otherwise not much else. Work is crazy right now. As you may or may not know, I work in retail advertising and while everyone is still enjoying the summer (or not depending if you are like me and loathe weather above 65º) we are working on ways to shove Christmas specials down your throat! This week was crazy, but at least we have off Monday. Since I had such a crazy week I am sooooo looking forward to getting my drink on :)

Overdue

I got some sad news today. My sister's dog died this morning. She was 15. If you are not a pet owner that might not seem like a big deal to you, but for someone owns a pet or grew up w/ pets knows that they become a huge part of your life and are truly are one of the family. Though I hadn't seen Brandi in a while, she'll always hold a special place in my heart. My sister had another Shih Tzu before Brandi named Tiger, but he died when he was only 5. Needless to say we were heartbroken. A few years later her bf at the time got her a new puppy, and that new puppy was Brandi. Wow I was 15 when they got her. She was the sweetest little thing and would spend tons of time at our house as my sister would bring her over to keep my elderly grandfather company. The two of them would go for walks, take naps together (something my Grandfather would never do w/ Tiger), etc. They were best of buds. As you can image she was our little princess and was spoiled rotten!

As she got older she went blind in both eyes and like many dogs grew into her old age :( My Mom called me this morning to tell me the news. As you can imagine I am heartbroken. I spent the majority of the morning crying, as all I could do was think of my poor Brandi. So Chus your big cousin is in heaven now.

As an ode to my little niece...I leave you w/ some pics when she was a puppy as well as one of us when I was 15. I think she was trying to bite my bubble gum, hence why I am laughing. Check out the hair! And the braces!

I've got some other stuff to blog about, etc. but after today I am emotionally drained and really don't feel like writing anymore. I hope you're all well.

So Good...

So I know I've been MIA from my blog lately. Sorry. I really have things I've been meaning to post, but I guess time has gotten the best of me. Anyhoo...I recently found an 80s movie I was desperately looking for on DVD this past weekend when I was in my hometown on Milwaukee. Anyhoo you'll see what it is below as I present my 10 favortie bad movies, you know the ones that are so bad they're good. I didn't include the obvious SHOWGIRLS as that's in a league of its own as are any and all John Waters films. These films weren't all necesarily trying to be bad (ok some where) but whatever they were wasn't very good.

10. DROP DEAD FRED What's not to love about this movie? Phoebe Cates (absolutely love her...hello Shag anyone?) has an imaginary friend as a kid who's beyond trouble and after surpressing it for years, he comes back into her life as an adult. The guy that plays Fred is hilarious, and those one liners! I absolutely adore the little girl who plays Phoebe's character as a child. Favorite line? I'm your fella Anabella

9. LAST DRAGON Awful awful 80s movie! But it features Vanity and her delicious song 7th Heaven. Plus the faux pop star who looks like Bette Midler on crack...Dirty Boys! OMG this movie is so wrong I don't know where to begin. Cheese and more cheese. Who's the master? Sho-nuf!

8. GARBAGE PAIL KIDS Ok this was the movie that inspired this post. I am sure you all remember the Garbage Pail Kids cards right? They were so popular at the time someone thought it would be a good idea to bring their grossness to the big screen. What were they thinking!?! It's like watching one big fart joke. And that theme song at the end of the movie? If you're teacher send you to the principal's office...you can be a Garbage Pail Kid!

7. SUMMER CAMP NIGHTMARE Ok this one is bad on soooo many levels. First of all it stars Samantha Newark. Who's that you might be asking yourself? Well she's none other than the speaking voice of Jem. Yes from the cartoon. It's great hearing Jem swear! This is a bad movie about some kids who take over their summer camp, and well you can imagine the rest. But what's even greater is the awful talent contest where we are serenaded with a song about beef bologna.

6. SHE-DEVIL Ok I friggin' adore Roseanne and her her TV show is one of my favorites of all-time. So to capitalize on her TV success back in the day, someone gave her own movie (not to mention a lame TV movie about football moms). To top it off her costar was Meryl Streep! Roseanne plays a scorned wife who takes revenge on her cheating husband and destroys everything in her quest. The result is this awful awful movie that's taken on a life of its own.

5. JUST ONE OF THE GUYS Does it get any better than this? A Chicago high school senior (w/ a very heavy New York accent might I add) decides to go undercover as a guy at a rival high school after not winning a journalist internship. Because girls aren't good journalists...so she has a point to prove. I think they did a knock off of this recently, some lame Amanda Bynes movie. It's just pure 80s cheese, and I love it!

4. EARTH GIRLS ARE EASY As a kid I was obsessed w/ Julie Brown and her MTV show Just Say Julie. Well when I found out she was going to be co-starring in a movie I was thrilled. Bad on so many levels, the acting, the songs ('Cause I'm a Blond anyone?), the cheesy dancing. It's too die for! As an adult I appreciate it's campiness even more. Not to mention that I have a major hard on for Jeff Goldblum (grrrrr). Long story short Geena Davis plays a scorned wife (what's w/ these cheated on women flicks I seem to love), aliens crash their spaceship in her pool (they also happen to be furry but w/ a little help from beautician pal Julie Brown they are hotties), they have zany adventures while on Earth, blah blah. You get the point. So bad it's good!

3. MI VIDA LOCA Ok anyone who knows me, knows I can practically recite this movie in my sleep. This has to be one of the worst movies EVER! The acting is so bad, the dialouge is hilarious (Let's see if you're down for shit bitch, and don't be a leva), etc. It's like every bad cliche in every bad latino movie. I just love how awful this movie! The whole chola backdrop is to die for! What I would do to meet la Whispers in person!

2. ELVIRA MISTRESS OF THE DARK Elvira's popularity in the 80s brought her to big screen, and to this day this movie remains a fave. Elvira hosts a bad horror show (wow what a stretch); quits, is broke and finds out she's inherited a house from a long lost aunt she didn't even know existed. Basically she runs amuck in a small town where her boobs (or gazungas as they're so lovingly referred to) cause quite a stir. This movie is pure cheese, the townsfolk (Eddie McClurg stars as Chastity Pariah, my email namesake) are to die for, and who can forget all her sexual innuendos and that rap she does at the end of the movie! They should make this into a musical!

Now the moment you've all been waiting for...

1. TEEN WITCH Holy bad! Holy cheese! Holy teen musical! This is by far one of my favorite movies of all time (bad or good). Louise discovers she is a descendant in a long line of witches who get their powers on their 16th birthday. She goes from frumpy outcast to becoming the most popular girl in school (thanks to her magicals powers). The awful late 80s fasions, the songs (We like boys! Top That!), that creepy lady from Poltergeist. But the best is that spazzy kid who plays her little brother...You think you're hot stuff...well you're nothing but a dog! A dog!

eight

So I just realized that my anniversary of moving to Chicago kinda passed me by! Ooops! I think it's because I've been living (and working) here for so long I tend to forget I'm not a native. With that said, this past August 9 was exactly 8 years ago that I moved to Chicago! Wow! I can't believe it's been 8 years already. I can truly say that this city has made me feel at home the entire time I've lived here. Just think of all the wonderful people I've befriended since living here. Not to mention the obvious :)

Mr. Mambo

I just got some sad news. Turns out a friend of mine passed away last month (I just found out today). Though we never met in person, we were pen pals and traded material of our favorite has-been divas (i.e. Tiffany, Martika, Stacey Q, etc.) over the years and spoke on the phone every now and then. I know he's had some personal issues of the last several years of his life, but I'd spoken to him on and off again for a long time now and he was usually in high spirits. I'd really come to appreciate his friendship over the years.

My heart sank when I heard the news. It's just sad. I don't know what else to say. Wherever you are Robert (aka Mr. Mambo) I just want to say thank you for being such a wonderful friend over the years. I'm sorry we never got to meet in person and go get smashed on margaritas like we always joked we would do one day.

So with that said I dedicate the following to him...I think he was the one person I knew who actually like Tiffany's "New Inside" album more than me :P

Tiffany Times Two

I am sick at home as I type this. I stayed home Wed. as I had a sore throat and sounded like Ja Rule when I spoke. I sucked it up and went into work yesterday (Thurs) and got a lot done despipte my constant coughing. I was planning on staying late last night but I just felt gross so I came home and went to bed early and decided to stay home today. Thank god I did!

I haven't updated my blog in weeks it seems! Everyone was asking how the Tiffany shows went...they were great! Here are some pictures I took w/ my new new camera that I am in love with!!!

First up pics from Tiff's show at Circuit:

We were lucky enough to meet her again. She was super sweet and took time to sign stuff for us as well as pose for a picture w/ her "godsons"!

Being the big dorks we are, we also went out to see her the following night at Hunter's. If any of you have been to Hunter's you'll know it's uh, rather interesting. The crowd is suburban gays (we all know how scary they can be) and really bad cross dressers! LOL! Again she gave another great show as you can see below:

We were able to meet her yet again and I got a few autographs for some friends who could not make it (not to mention I had her sign a few more cds for me!). With that said now I have almost every one of my Tiffany cds signed!

Look!!!! BTW if any of you are familiar w/ Tiffany's 2nd album Hold An Old Friend's Hand, there is a song on there that is über trashy that I love to death called Drop That Bomb. If you can see in the pic I asked Tiff to sign my cd "To Joe Drop That Bomb!" to which she obliged! She rocks!

In case any one was wondering how Chus is taking to our new home...

Needless to say he's fitting in just fine :) Hope everyone is having a good day. Off to see the Simpsons movie today as well (cause that's all I've been hearing about all summer).

Woo hoo!

My Loco Mía CD/DVD import from Spain just arrived!!! OMG I want to go home right now and watch it! To tide my over, and you guys too...some performances of my favorite LM moments!

This song was from the controversial second formation of LM...so what if they weren't the originals, they had the best songs! Why wouldn't they, Mónica Naranjo's producer did these songs for them! Check out Obsesiva:

And what better way to celebrate Loco Mía in all their tackiness...then this interview w/ the queen of all things tacky in Mexico, Verónica Castro:

Living Dolls

Today's post is not about the late 80s Who's The Boss spin-off, Living Dolls. Maybe I'll save that for another day. Today I'd like to talk to you all about one of my dorky hobbies. Celeb dolls! I don't know what it is, but I love celebrity dolls. Call me a big 'ol homo if you will...but I just love them!

I guess what started my thoughts on today's topic is that when I was in high school I had 2 Beverly Hills 90210 dolls. In particular these two:

Being the fool that I am I decided to give them away to my best friend. Years later I found out he doesn't even have them anymore because his mom gave them away! WTF. So now that I am an adult and am allowed to spend money on such foolish things I purchased a brand new Donna Martin doll on ebay for only $10! Woo hoo! Now I just need to replace my Shannen Doherty doll and I'm all good :)

So what other dolls do I have? I have 3 RuPaul dolls, some Spice Girls dolls, a few Britney Spears dolls (I don't even like her, but people bought them for me), a Christina Aguilera doll and a Hilary Duff doll!

OMG I think this qualifies is my gayest post ever! Are there any other celeb dolls that I should add to my collection. Maybe I'll track down those old Saved By The Bell dolls. I can recreate my own version of this...

Edit:
I had to come back and write the reason why I started this post in the first place! For those of you who grew up in the 80s do you remember this doll???

As a kid I always wanted a Brooke Shields doll! I remember my grandfather would take me to Toys-R-Us w/ him (he had a grocery store and he would buy diapers there and resell them at his store) and he would let me get something small. I had a Ken doll so I would buy outfits for him (I know I know...what a fag) and I always remember that damn Brooke Shields doll sitting on the store shelf! I wonder how much they go for on ebay? I guess this is where my celeb doll fascination began.

Hey shouldn't the RBD and new Cher dolls be out by now?

Boom

I absolutely loathe fireworks. So I find it funny that it rained like cats and dogs on the 3rd. Seriously I just think they are boring. What is the point? Anyhoo...that didn't stop people from setting them off in our alley last night. The sad thing is you would have thought it would have been some ghetto mofos but it was all these hipsters. I honestly do not see the point. But I must say nothing is as bad as when I lived in Bridgeport (aka Shitport) on Chicago's South Side. As Rob jokingly told me It was like war!. Seriously there was smoke everywhere you couldn't even see your house it was so bad. Anyoo I am glad this "Holiday" is over, but I am sure people will continue to light their illegal fireworks until summer is gone.

Which btw I hope is soon. I just can't stand the heat!

Anyhoo enough bitching about fireworks. What I wanted to talk about is how much I am in love with ex-Kabah member María José's solo debut! It's such a fun pop album! I highly recommend it!!!

To check out more on here visit her official myspace page. I always liked Kabah, and incidently felt she was the only one w/ a half way decent voice (which when you think about it isn't that big of a feat). Anyhoo I'm just loving the sounds she explored. The songs are really catchy and I can not get enough of it! I am not when this is getting a US release, but I did notice that it's avaialbe on for download on itunes USA. This is my favorite song on the album, it's called Habla menos:

Well peeps I have to get back to work. Be good.

We did it, lo hicimos

We are all moved in!!! Finally!!!! Took forever but EVERYTHING is now out of the old apartment, cleaned it yesterday, etc. and now it's no longer a concern of mine.

Today we are busy unpacking trying to find a home for all our crap. I honestly so far adore our new place and I like how close we are to everything. Chus loves it too, as there are tons of smaller dogs in the neighborhood. We already met like 5 this week alone! Our neighbors are super quiet, which is odd for an apartment building I think.

Anyhoo...hope you're all enjoying your weekend. Gotta get back to some unpacking. We are going to IKEA on Friday, which I am looking forward to :)

Peace in yo' middle crease.

Wednesday, June 27, 2007

Finally!

Sorry for the lack of posts. We've been super busy unpacking. The move went smooth (even though we had a few broken items). Now it's just a matter of unpacking and going back to the old place and cleaning up. And yes I still have some odds and ends there to clear out. I hate moving, it's like it never ends!

Work is driving me crazy. It's almost 9pm on Wed. and I am still here finishing up a project that's due tomorrow. Actually I just finished. Just waiting for a ride from my coworker.

Pride was this Sunday. I had a blast, but unfortunately my bum bum didn't. It's largely my fault, and I hope I can make it up to him. Thanks for letting me have fun though. I really needed it.

A few visuals for your enjoyment:

Who's shit faced?

In more exciting news Tiffany is doing 2, count 'em 2, shows in Chicago. And one is actually in the city!!!!

The first one is July 20 @ Circuit in Boystown. Yeah! The second one is out in the burbs at Hunter's on July 21. OMG I can't wait!!!!

In other news after having been cable-less for years I finally got cable again! I decided that I was paying way too much for my phone and internet with SBC, or AT&T or whatever the fuck they call themselves now. So I gave in and got phone/internet/cable through Comcast. Yay! Junk TV!!! It's really only $20 more than what I was paying for only 2 services. Plus it's all inclusive.
Alright peeps I gotta get to a meeting (it's Thurs am as I am finishing this post...).

Thursday, June 21, 2007

Almost

Tomorrow is our move! Woo hoo! I can't wait to get out of current place. I know we struggled for a bit when deciding to leave or not, but I honestly believe w/ all my heart we have made the right decision. Yay! We sign our lease tonight and get our keys. The next two days will be hellish but we'll get through it :) I'll post some pics once we're all settled in.

To tide you over 'til my next post here's a video for you all to enjoy :)

Packers

I am in packing hell. Well the packing part isn't so bad. It just would help if it was 9 thousand fucking degrees out!!! I HATE SUMMMER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Apparently it is only going to be 82º on Friday. Let's hope it gets even cooler than that.

Peace out.
